Oh my goodness! I’d been looking forward to this wedding for over a year, and it did not disappoint. By a crazy coincidence, I happened to be in Los Angeles the day that Monique first emailed me to ask if I ever traveled to, or photographed in Los Angeles! So, we met up and chatted all about her wedding plans and her fiancé Jamal 🙂 A few months later, Robb & I headed back down to LA for their engagement session around Loyola University, with beautiful views of the city skyline. They are just the most adorable couple! Monique was a bridesmaid and family member of the groom in a wedding I photographed all the way back in 2009, Carlton & Denise, married at Graylyn Estate in Winston Salem, NC. I loved working with Carlton & Denise and their friends and family and knew that Monique & Jamal’s wedding day would be just as spectacular! They were married in their family church, Holman United Methodist, on West Adams in Los Angeles, and then after the ceremony everyone headed out to Redondo Beach for their wedding reception at The Portofino Hotel and Marina. Gorgeous! I loved both locations. The church had great walls with interesting stained glass peepholes scattered throughout, lots of natural light, and behind the altar was a really awesome backdrop that I’m not sure how to describe except that there were hundreds of wooden blocks suspended on rods and each side of each block was painted a different color and you could turn the blocks around on the rods. That was a long sentence! So, it gave great texture and visual interest to the images. And of course the Portofino was amazing and had a beautiful sunset, complete with a silhouetted Gondola in the bay. Anyway, I’ll quit talking now.
