getting ready for the wedding at salon della vita in savannah ga

I have always loved Savannah, GA with all it’s beautiful squares but don’t get to visit nearly as much as I’d like, so I was beyond thrilled when Kim told me they would be married there in Whitfield Square (or Whitefield, depending on which side of the square you’re looking at)! They were so lucky with such perfect weather… a beautiful day all the way around. This is a longer post than usual since we started photographing early in the morning and ended late in the evening:)

The couple arranged to have trolleys take everyone to the reception site. The wedding party had a trolley all for themselves so that we could cart around Savannah and take portraits in different areas like Forsyth Park. I LOVE IT when the couple schedules in plenty of time for portraits… that’s when we’re able to get some of the best portraits of the bride and groom from the whole day!

The reception was held on the 5th floor of Vic’s on the River… a beautiful venue with great views of the Savannah River.

Kim’s dad didn’t like the song options he had for their first dance so he wrote his own and had their family friend put it to music. He also played during the ceremony… awesome talent!

Cutler and Kayla were married last weekend at Burgaw Baptist Church in Burgaw, NC and had an intimate reception at Heritage Place, also in Burgaw, NC. With these two, it was love at first date, and engagement by their tenth. Kayla has been a dear friend of mine since Middle School and I am so happy for her and Cutler! They were definitely made for one another:)

wedding photobooth at reception in burgaw, nc

This past weekend, we here at Crystal Genes Photography kicked off our first wedding of the year with a bang by debuting our new photobooth! We’ve been wanting to add this to our services for some time, but didn’t actually do anything about it until our wonderful couple, Kayla & Cutler, mentioned that they would love to have one at their wedding. So, instead of letting them outsource to someone else, I gave my dad a call and told him what I had in mind. A couple of weeks later he had helped construct the perfect portable booth! After a few more months of consulting with a seamstress and getting the final touches put in place, we finally had what we had envisioned and couldn’t wait to put it to use! Thanks again Dad for all your help!

One thing that I knew I wanted was an option for different backdrops. So many photobooths have a plain white background, and while that’s great, I wanted something a little more fun and representative of my style. I have always loved a busy patterned background (I even did an entire college photo project involving this love), so I was excited when Kayla chose this retro floral print for her booth.

Many thanks to Andy the intern for keeping the booth alive all evening!

Thanks Kayla & Cutler for getting us on the ball with the photobooth fun!

There’s no way I could ever pick a set number of my top favorite images of the year, so instead I’m picking my top favorite image from each shoot we had this year. That was hard enough:) It’s been an amazing year, we had amazing clients, and created some amazing images that we’re very proud of! I can’t wait to see what 2010 brings for us! Enjoy!

And finally, the one “session of the year” that I just could not choose one image from… Brent & Katrin’s Jet Skiing Trash the Dress/Tux Session!

Some exciting things that 2009 brought our way:

-WPPI in Vegas in February

-People’s Choice for week 5 in The Flare Competition

-Carlton & Denise’s Graylyn Wedding featured on Dina’s amazing wedding blog – White Thread

-Participated in “What’s Happening Now – A Cell Phone Photography Project” show in Atlanta

-The launch of The Charlotte Wedding Photographer’s Eat & Meet Group

– A full year of new features on The Bokeh Pot

-Weddings & Portrait Sessions that took us across the state & beyond (Blowing Rock, Boone, Wallace, Burgaw, Wilmington, Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, Winston Salem, Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Hanging Rock, Black Mountain, Lake Gaston, Georgetown SC, Duncan SC, Atlanta GA) — Can’t wait for some of the places we’ll be going this year for weddings & sessions… Savannah and NYC are two to name a few!
